Trouble of a different kind with the XR9S

Made a trip to the local indoor range today.  Shot close to 200 rounds and brought up my total to 600 rounds through my new gun.  The gun was absolutely flawless until I went to put it in its case.…Continue

Bond Bullpup New to me update

I read the following on the EPIC TACTICAL  " ET" article from 2017 Shot Show.

Bond is going to be releasing the Bullpup with a threaded barrel.

In anticipation of the success of the Bullpup, they are already developing this pistol in 45ACP and are kicking around the idea of having extended magazines and possibly other calibers as well.…

100's of ammunition choices; but I shoot ?? because..

I have tried many of the ammos listed or available locally; and find that PMC Bronze works the best for me.  I have 1000 rounds through my XR9s and this shoots straight and clean.  I hope to increase my rounds to 1500 by the end of the year.  What do you use and  why.

Hello John
I am not a Boberg owner, I like the feel, size and firing the xr9s, however I have rented them 3 times from 2 different Bill's locations and here is what I experienced.
I have only been able to run 1 full magazine through it without issue.
Magtech 115 grain, the only ammo Bill's allows to be used in their rentals.
2 of the guns jammed so bad they were sent back.
I still like the concept if it could be made as reliable as my Sig P938
I live just down the road from the plant and hope to hear upgrades that address the issue.

I bought my XR9-S two tone nearly two years ago.  I have about 2500 rounds through it.  I have tried a few different types of ammo in it and have settled on Winchester white box or Remington. Both kinds have worked flawlessly in the gun.  I have had some issues with the rounds sticking in the magazine that turned out to be out of spec magazines.  I took them to the Boberg offices and they checked them on some kind of jig and fixed whatever the trouble was.

I like the gun and am intrigued by the mechanism.  Most of the people who have shot it find the long DAO trigger pull to be a challenge to shoot well.  Very soft shooting for a gun this size.

I take it to the local IDPA matches and shoot in the Back Up Gun (BUG) division.  I am and OFWG so I am never going to win, but I enjoy the challenge of the stages.  I get a lot of comments about the supercharged brass ejection.

I will be attending a Massad Ayoob Group MAG40 in Sioux Fall SD this May and am planning on using this as my range gun for the class.

I have a nice OWB leather holster that I use at the matches, but my work takes me into peoples homes so I want deep concealment.  I have been using a VersaCarry clip which make the pistol disappear in my waistband.

I have a very low serial number XR9-L two tone. I have around 800 or so rounds through it. I haven't had any feeding issues with it at all, but there have been issues. I had issues with blow-back that got me laughed at by most of the community on the forums and got almost no help from Boberg. I suspected that the chamber was a bit too wide, and the round wasn't making a seal with the chamber when firing standard rounds(not +p). This was causing some serious powder burns on my hand when firing. Boberg did allow me to send the slide assembly back to them for testing. They said it ran fine with 145 grain +p and sent it back without any modifications. I basically gave up on the gun and shelved it for a few months until Boberg gained the ability to manufacture their own barrels instead of outsourcing. I then purchased an onyx barrel, which finally solved this issue on my own dime. I've also had the lower pin that the hammer spring attaches to slide out of place a few times, rendering the pistol inoperable. This was easily fixed with a little loctite on the pin.

After resolving my issues, I do like the pistol and it runs great, however I wouldn't recommend it due to the issues that I had to resolve myself without any help from Boberg. Who knows how much better Bond Arms will be. As for the more prominent ammo issues, I haven't had any separations. I have used a variety of Hornady ammo, Sellier & Bellot, Speer Gold Dot, and PMC Bronze. All fed and fired fine. You're basically going to want to make sure your ammo is actually jacketed and not just plated, because the plating process doesn't leave a thick enough layer of copper on the bullet to get a good crimp to the case. You're going to have to learn and know the difference between a plated and jacketed bullet, because some ammunition that is plated will be labeled as FMJ implying that it is jacketed, when it's actually plated. The L versions seem to have less separation issues due to the added weight of the slide equating to less rearward inertia when the round is pulled back, so my input might not be valid if you get an short version.

I have put around 600 rounds through it. Love the feel of the gun. Not much of a kick and is very true to where it is pointed. Very picky on ammo. Best with Winchester. Have had numerious feeding problems and had to send it back as a part had a nick in it. Don't think it is broke in yet. When it runs it is great. Cleaning it right is major. Would I buy it again? Yes
